MILLENNIUM CELEBRATION:
POSTCARDS FROM THE GLOBAL
VILLAGE

The corner of Tucker and Washington in downtown St. Louis became a new media version of Times Square in a large-scale indoor/ outdoor event where St. Louisans greeted the Millennium with revelers from around the world. "Postcards from the Global Village" featured digital artists who combined web-cam images from Berlin, Jerusalem and South Africa with archival footage from St. Louis, as well as live footage from a New Year's Eve party. This stew of images, including ponderous and playful millennium texts, were mixed and projected. They were simultaneously displayed at the New Years Eve party and projected on the side of a building at the corner of Tucker and Washington. "Postcards from the Global Village" was a collaborative sponsorship of MediaARTS, Metropolis St. Louis, and the St. Louis City Information Network.
